welcome
to the Women’s Recreational Fishing League.
Imagine a world where every Australian woman realises her full potential, unshackled from societal and gender-based limitations. At the Women’s Recreational Fishing League (WRFL), we recognise that recreational fishing is a catalyst for empowerment, wellbeing, and positive mental health. Our mission is to foster an environment where the benefits of this inclusive sport are recognised and celebrated at all levels of society. By embracing the uniquely inclusive nature of fishing, we aim to create a supportive community where women can thrive, grow, and connect with nature in meaningful ways. Join us at WRFL in redefining what’s possible for women through the transformative power of fishing.

Welcome to the “Home Ground” of the Women’s Recreational Fishing League!
Finding you here is exciting because it shows that, like us, you are interested in advancing women’s recreational fishing in Australia… we welcome you with open arms!
Femme Fishing is not a new concept. We follow in the footsteps of centuries — nay, millenia — of trailblazers and cultural fishers from across the globe. Somewhere in time though, societal gender roles imposed barriers and fishing became accepted as a male sport and today, whilst many Australian women and girls love to fish, there are many more who’ve simply never had the opportunity.
They don’t know the freedom that fishing brings, the bizarre coupling of exhilaration and zen-like mindfulness that can happen at the same time… the humility that comes with growing insight into the symbiosis of all things. They’ve probably not yet found the liberation that comes from being truly self-reliant. And that needs fixing!
Fishing for us is not about the biggest fish (although we do love to chase them)… it’s about life. It’s about being the best version of ourselves we can be. The Women’s Recreational Fishing League is here to ensure every woman who wants to explore and enjoy the benefits that our sport brings can do so in a supportive environment, sharing knowledge and laughs with like-minded people.
WRFL is about elevating every female angler to their next step on this life-long learning curve — whether that step is catching their first fish or winning their first tournament; whether it’s bait fishing under a float or casting a fly at a bonefish on a sun-bleached sand flat. We are about learning and mentoring, sharing our varied experiences and knowledge, recognising that there’s not a single angler anywhere who knows everything.
With so many Australian women yet to pick up a rod, we have a lot to do. I hope that you’ll join us to grow our numbers. I genuinely believe that we can achieve cultural gender parity in fishing by 2050. This is our goal.
Feel free to get in touch.
